Who is the Ecology Centre?

The Ecology Centre is a multidisciplinary research centre in pure and applied ecology based at the University of Queensland, Brisbane Australia.  We are part of the the Faculty of  Science, and span the schools of Biological Sciences, Mathematics and Physics, Geography Planning and Environmental Management, Earth Sciences,  and The Centre for Marine Studies.

Ecological and Conservation Research are multi-disciplinary sciences, researching Earth’s biodiversity with the specific goal of providing science based, transparent tools and information to facilitate effective and efficient management decisions. This is equally relevant for the conservation of terrestrial, aquatic and marine species, their habitats and ecosystems, both within Australia and internationally.

The University of Queensland (UQ) is a world leading research university in Ecological and Conservation Research, consistently publishing more papers in top international journals than any other Australian University1.

UQ works closely with non-government organisations, community, industry and government partners to develop solutions to environmental problems that are also economically and socially efficient.

Our key areas of research and key researchers are listed here for you to browse and contact.  We also have all these researchers publications available through UQ’s eSpace facility for your perusal and download.

We post interesting news about ecological and conservation issues whenever we can and encourage you to set up RSS feeds and comment if you like.  Any technical issues with this web site should be directed to our web site manager.  For questions about study or research in any of these areas, please send questions and comments directly to relevant researcher.
